Description:

APTA is seeking members with knowledge of the CPT code set and code valuation process interested in serving on the American Medical Association’s (AMA’s) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC). The HCPAC is an advisory committee to the CPT Editorial Panel providing input on procedure coding and nomenclature and suggesting revisions to the CPT code set.The CPT Editorial Panel relies upon the professional judgment of, diligence of preparation by, and a commitment to “best evidence” by the CPTHCPAC) Advisors (CPT Advisors). 
Roles and Selection Criteria of the CPT Advisors:
 
1. Represent APTA at  three in person annual CPT Editorial Panel meetings with consultation and guidance from APTA staff. 
2. Prepare CPT code change applications submitted by the APTA independently or in collaboration with other societies representing qualified healthcare professionals,  or assisting other societies with their applications. Applications must be complete, coherent, and consistent with current medical practice and coding conventions.
3. Comment on other applicants’ applications in advance of Panel meetings.
4. Assist APTA’s RUC Advisor in preparing submissions to the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC). 
5. Required to comply with the AMA CPT Committee Confidentiality Agreement and Copyright Assignment.  
6. As requested by the Chair of the Editorial Panel, participate in ad hoc workgroups and similar special projects.
7. Current license to practice in the U.S. (required)
8. E-mail capabilities to speed communications (required).
9. Willingness to participate in an AMA staff orientation session and/or mentoring by current committee members (required).
10. Willingness to work with APTA CPT coding staff on coding issues on a regular basis (required).
11. Commitment to participate in all aspects of CPT Process (required).
12. Commitment to represent specialty society. (required)
13. Current involvement in direct patient care (preferred).
