APTA is seeking volunteers to serve as APTA Student Council Steering Group members for the 2025 calendar year.
Background:
APTA councils are composed of component representatives who are selected or elected by APTA components for collaboration to advance the association. The APTA Student Council is led by a chair, co-chair, and a three-person steering group, elected by the council members.
Open positions:
One APTA Student Council Co-Chair - Jan 1, 2025- Dec. 31, 2026 (two years)*
Three APTA Student Council Steering Group Members - Jan. 1, 2025- Dec. 31, 2025 (one year)
Current Student Council representatives may apply for co-chair, steering group member, or both opportunities through this application. *Steering Group Co-chair must have an anticipated graduation date Jan. 1, 2026 or later.
Councils are a national community of component volunteers tasked to promote member engagement in the association.
Eligibility:
● Must be a current APTA member.
● Must be a current Student Council representative at the time of application.
Council Steering Group Co-chair Responsibilities:
● Co-leads steering group and council activities with the Chair.
● Along with the Chair, works to prepare meeting agendas and presides over all meetings of the steering group and quarterly meetings of the council.
● Maintains regular communication with APTA’s staff liaison.
● Co-represents council to the APTA Board of Directors and APTA staff along with the Chair
● Attends APTA leadership events, as invited.
● Coordinates with Student Engagement Group delegates to communicate about House motions specific to PTAs.
● Serves as second alternate PTA Engagement Group delegate for the APTA House of Delegates.
Council Steering Group Responsibilities:
● Leads council activities.
● Hosts quarterly council meetings, to include an on-site meeting at APTA Leadership Congress.
● Plans a student engagement activity for APTA CSM.
● Recruits new leaders.
● Oversees the candidacy process for delegates.
● Oversees the candidacy process for council leaders.
● May not concurrently serve as a Student Engagement Group delegate.
Meetings:
The APTA Student Council, to include the Steering Group will have quarterly virtual meetings and one in-person meeting at APTA Leadership Congress. Additional meetings scheduled as needed. Virtual meetings will be held in the evening.
