APTA representative: Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for the Management of Rotator Cuff Injuries

Signup Deadline: 05-06-2025
Starts: 05-16-2025
Ends: 10-31-2025
Location: Online Opportunity

Description:

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Committee on Evidence-Based Quality and Value is planning to create Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for the Management of Rotator Cuff Injuries. They have invited APTA to nominate: 1-2 representatives to participate on the Writing Panel and  1-2 representatives to participate on the Voting Panel.

Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) specify when it is appropriate to perform a clinical procedure or service. Here are some examples of AUCs from AAOS:

·         AAOS AUC: Treatment of Distal Radius Fracture (2022)

·         AAOS AUC: Humeral Component Design, and Treatment for Shoulder OA with Intact Rotator Cuff and Severe Glenoid Retroversion (available via links on this page)

Additional Details and Qualifications:

Writing Panel members have no financial conflict of interest restrictions. The writing panel is a group of six to twelve clinicians who are considered experts in the selected topic. The ideal writing panel member should have experience in treating patients with Rotator Cuff Injuries, and will be required to construct and review materials, correspond with AAOS staff electronically, and participate in approximately 5-10 conference calls spanning one to three months in order to produce the AUC materials.

Voting Panel nominees must be free of relevant financial conflicts and will be required to complete the AAOS Conflict of Interest disclosure form online before participating. Additionally, they must participate in one 45-60-minute introductory webinar and use an electronic ballot to independently rate the appropriateness of various treatments for multiple patient scenarios (deadline for completion is approximately 1 month after the introductory call). Lastly, all voting panel members must attend a teleconference to discuss the first-round ratings with their fellow voting panel members and complete a second round of voting, as necessary.

Applications are due Monday May 5, 2025.
