Volunteer Opportunity Details

The APTA Association Leadership Scholars Program was established during APTA’s 2021 centennial year to build a cadre of future association leaders, both nationally and locally. The program demonstrates APTA’s investment in the sustainability of the association by promoting a diverse leadership pool. 
 
The 2025 program will run Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2025, with a cohort of 25 scholars and five mentors. There is no fee to participate and travel expenses are covered by APTA.   
 
Throughout the year, scholars will engage in a robust curriculum that covers association leadership, management, and factors that impact future leaders, such as financial strains, workforce demands, advocacy efforts, and membership recruitment and retention. Scholars will work within their cohorts to complete a group capstone project. Additional group projects and/or engagement activities may be assigned as part of the curriculum and each scholar will be responsible for sharing a year-end assessment of their experience and creating a personal leadership development plan.   
 

Eligibility and Application Requirements: 

1. Must be a current APTA member who completed their DPT or PTA program by January 1, 2024, or earlier. 

2. Must attend any required in-person events (likely to be two in-person meetings, expenses paid by APTA) and monthly virtual meetings to meet curriculum requirements. Tentative travel dates are July 12-14 and November 13-15, 2025. 

3. Must submit all required application materials by the application deadline. 

4. Must commit to submitting a synopsis to APTA of what you learned and how you benefitted from the program. 
5. Members who are Delegates or who otherwise will participate in the 2025 House of Delegates are not encouraged to apply as the Scholar Program conflicts with the House schedule.
