Background:
APTA has refined and operationalized its volunteer structure. This new framework is called APTA Member Engagement Groups, and the new name of this volunteer group is the APTA Chief Delegates Council. Starting Jan. 1, 2025, the council will officially be part of APTA’s Member Engagement Groups. Now and throughout 2025, APTA staff will guide volunteers through the transition into the new Member Engagement Group framework.
Opportunity:
APTA is seeking volunteers to serve on the APTA Chief Delegate Council Steering Group. This steering group will develop the future structure for the APTA Chief Delegate Council, the focus of its work, meeting cadence, and an orientation to be held no later than Jan. 31, 2025.
The steering group will be composed of seven members, two of which will be a House Officer and a member of APTA staff. The remaining five positions will be filled by the following:
- One small chapter chief delegate (delegation of 5 members or less)
- One medium chapter chief delegate (delegation of 6-12 members)
- One large chapter chief delegate (delegation of 13 or more members).
- One section/academy chief delegate.
- One non-component delegate (ACAPT, EJC, BHDC, Student Council, PTA Council)
Monthly meetings of the APTA Chief Delegate Council will be held the first Thursday of the month starting Feb. 6 until the steering group determines the meeting cadence for 2025
Volunteers for this opportunity must:
- Be a chief delegate or non-component delegate for the 2025 House cycle.
- Understand the APTA House of Delegates processes, structure, and function.
- Understand the role of the chief delegate and delegate within APTA’s House.
- Understand APTA governance structure.
- Be available to meet as a steering group on a regular basis to complete the task.
- Familiarity with the Future of House initiative is helpful but not mandatory.
