The Joint Government Affairs Committee (JGAC) is a collaborative committee of members from APTA Home Health and APTA Geriatrics with three primary goals: (1) influence healthcare policy, (2) advocate for physical therapy, and (3) advance the interests of the geriatric and home health communities. As a member of the JGAC, you will work alongside other dedicated professionals to achieve these goals and by doing so, shape public policy and advocate for the needs of the aging population and home health patients.
Responsibilities:
• Policy Advocacy: Work with committee members to identify key issues in healthcare policy that impact the home health and geriatrics sectors.
• Legislative Monitoring: Stay informed about proposed legislative changes at the local, state, and national levels that affect physical therapy services in home health and geriatrics.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, stakeholders, and lawmakers to build consensus and influence policy decisions.
• Communication: Draft and review position papers, policy statements, and other advocacy materials. Represent the JGAC at relevant events, conferences, and meetings.
• Strategic Planning: Assist in developing strategies to advocate for the interests of APTA Home Health and APTA Geriatrics members at the federal and state levels.
• Reporting: Provide updates and articles on relevant legislative activity to APTA Home Health & APTA Geriatrics BOD and members.
