APTA-NE State Government Affairs Liaison

Description:

The APTA Nebraska State Government Affairs Subcommittee advocates on behalf of the physical therapy profession and the clients we serve by monitoring and directing legislative efforts at the state legislative level that may impact physical therapy or the clients we serve. 

Goals Include:

  • Shaping the chapter’s position on legislative issues and building relationships with NE policy makers in order to better serve our patients
  • Inform our members of policy changes at the state level, including issues that may impact payment and access

APTA-NE is seeking a chairperson for the State Government Affairs Subcommittee. The Chair of the State Government Affairs Subcommittee acts as a liaison between the Nebraska Chapter and its lobbyist, monitors state legislation, and works directly with the President of APTA-NE. It is the Chair's responsibility to plan and execute APTA-NE's Advocacy Day, usually in the form of a Legislative Breakfast in Lincoln, NE, with the assistance of the rest of the subcommittee members. The Chair is also expected to attend APTA's State Government Affairs Forum annually and report back to the membership on the information received during the forum (the cost of the trip is covered by APTA and/or APTA-NE).  

Time commitment: 6-8 meetings a year (60-90 minutes) plus communication with lobbyists and senators (~1-2 hours per month).
