The APTA Health Promotion and Wellness Council (HPWC) is a community for stakeholders who have a special interest in developing and disseminating best practices in prevention, health promotion, wellness, and population health. The council promotes understanding of the role of the physical therapist in providing health promotion and wellness services, serves as a resource for association components and external groups related to that role, provides opportunities for council members to gain knowledge and to access tools and other resources to provide services, and connects stakeholders to catalyze positive change in society’s health beliefs, behaviors, and outcomes.

The HPWC is seeking component (section, academy, assembly, and council) partners to foster collaboration in the realms of health promotion and wellness. These relationships will help create a larger leadership panel for the HPWC and allow collaboration and communication across components, providing representation of various practice settings and patient populations.

Requirements of Participating Components:

• Component leadership approval of a working relationship with the HPWC, where access to “resources” (e.g. members, staff, consideration for peer-reviewed publication, CSM programming space, financial assistance/compensation) are made available with formal request to individuals or groups who are able and willing to complete “work” (e.g. creation of content, tools, resources, webinars, and curricular materials; grant application, research, and any needs of component members)
• Establish a committee, SIG, or other formal internal group related to Health Promotion and Wellness within their component (Recommended, not required)
• Appoint TWO HPWC liaisons to serve on a leadership panel (can be leaders of the related committee or SIG or persons appointed by component leadership)

HPWC component liaison responsibilities:

• Participate in HPWC steering group meetings (6 virtual meetings per calendar year and up to 2 in-person meetings per calendar year at APTA conferences)

• • Will be recorded for those who cannot attend

• Participate in the liaison forum on HPWC’s HUB page
• Support efforts to foster council and component collaboration
• Support member driven communication and networking
• Act as an intermediary between component leadership and individuals/groups in the exchange of “resources” and “work”
