APTA National - APTA Association Leadership Scholar Program - Mentor 2024

Signup Deadline: 08-23-2023
Starts: 01-01-2024
Ends: 12-31-2024

Description:

The APTA Association Leadership Scholars Program was established during APTA’s 2021 centennial year to build a cadre of future association leaders, both nationally and locally. The program demonstrates APTA’s investment in the sustainability of the association by promoting a diverse leadership pool.
The 2024 program will run Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2024 with a cohort of 25 scholars and approximately five mentors. Mentors will work directly with up to five scholars.

Throughout the year, the selected scholars will engage in a robust curriculum that covers association leadership, management topics, and baseline information for the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan and factors that impact future leaders, such as financial strains, workforce demands, advocacy efforts, and membership recruitment and retention.

The mentor role will be singularly focused on helping scholars through the curriculum, forming connections and, toward the end of the program, helping them to develop personal leadership timelines. Mentors will be encouraged to share their leadership journeys, to help the scholars identify the various paths to leadership, and to play a more active role as small group moderators during the monthly learning modules.

Time Commitment:
Depending on the mentoring needs of your assigned scholars, commitment could be up to four hours per month for 12 months, not including one face-to-face meeting.
Mentor Eligibility Requirements:
• APTA member in good standing
• Previous national or component leadership experience, such as serving on the APTA Board or a Component Board of Directors, or serving as committee or work group chairs. Catherine Worthingham Fellows or recipients of other APTA national honors and awards are also eligible for appointments as mentors.
• Ability to attend APTA Leadership Congress 2024.
• A commitment to guide five scholars through the program for the calendar year.
