APTA WA Legislative District Advocate (LDA)

Program Goals: One Legislative District Advocate (LDA) will serve as a primary contact to their state legislators. The LDA will establish valuable relationships with these legislators to increase the awareness of the key issues facing physical therapists and their patients.

2. Network with colleagues, their practices, and others in the different practice arenas.

4. Develop relationships and contacts with state leaders in government and the Chapter.
5. Enhance your ability to navigate the health care environment to support your practice setting and patients.

Responsibilities:

  1. Stay abreast of the key issues and the Chapter’s position that are relevant on the district and state level.
  2. Serve as a resource and grow your relationship with the legislators by contacting the appropriate staff several times per year about important key legislative issues and events.
  3. Strive to meet in-person with your legislators at least once per year.
  4. Promptly and appropriately respond to all chapter grassroots network alerts.
    Strive to participate in one local district town hall meeting and/or attend/hold one local fundraiser per year.
  5. In addition to working closely with the Chapter District Chair, work with the Chapter Lobbyist, Legislative Committee Chair, WPT-PAC, Chapter staff, APTA staff and others as needed on previously described activities.
  6. Recruit district member involvement in district activities.
  7. Submit quarterly reports to board liaison (Practice Panel Director) and Chapter executive director.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a PT or PTA member in good standing APTA Washington.
  • Must reside or work in the state legislative district for which you are applying.
  • Must maintain a working e-mail address in the APTA Washington database.

Training and Supervision: The Lobbyist, along with the Legislative Committee Chair, will provide an orientation. The Executive Director will be available for operational support throughout the term and is available to answer any questions.

Commitment: 2 year, renewable term; 2-4 hours per month.
