APTA National - Awards Committee Member - Scholarship Awards Subcommittee 2022

APTA's Awards Committee is seeking 3 members to serve a 2-year term on the Scholarship Awards Subcommittee. 

The Awards Committee subcommittees will apply the criteria established by the Board of Directors (Board) for each association honor and award to each nomination received for each award under its purview and make recommendations regarding award recipients to the Board. 

The Board’s determined charge for each Awards Committee Subcommittee is:

  • Review award nominations* received for each award that falls under the subcommittee's purview against the applicable criteria established by the Board.
  • Recommend potential recipients to the Board for final approval.**
  • When requested by the Board, review and make recommendations on proposals for new awards applicable to the subcommittee's award category and provide feedback on the utility of the criteria and measurement tools for existing awards within the subcommittee's purview.
  • Submit a report to the Board on an annual basis.

This subcommittee will review nominations received for the following awards:

Mary McMillan Scholarship Award

The Mary McMillan Scholarship Award honors students currently in their last year of an accredited program for their superior scholastic ability and measurable potential for future contributions to both the physical therapy profession and APTA.

Minority Scholarship Award

The Minority Scholarship Award recognizes physical therapy students currently in their final year of an accredited program, and faculty members who are pursuing postprofessional doctoral degrees for their professional character and academic excellence. These awards are sponsored by the Minority Scholarship Fund and voluntary contributions.

The Minority Scholarship Award also includes the Minority Faculty Development Scholarship Award.



  • Must be an educator
  • Must include at least 1 physical therapist assistant educator



This subcommittee meets approximately 2 times per year virtually.

Note: All APTA appointed groups will conduct their work with the Association organizational values in mind and in the context of 1) APTA’s mission, vision and strategic plan, and 2) the potential for their work to have implications related to physical therapist assistants, women, diversity, and risk management.
