APTA National - Awards Committee Member - Advocacy Awards Subcommittee 2022

APTA's Awards Committee is seeking 3 members to serve a 2-year term on the Advocacy Awards Subcommittee. 

The Awards Committee subcommittees will apply the criteria established by the Board of Directors (Board) for each association honor and award to each nomination received for each award under its purview and make recommendations to the Board regarding award recipients.

 The Board’s determined charge for each Awards Committee Subcommittee is:

  • Review award nominations* received for each award that falls under the subcommittee's purview against the applicable criteria established by the Board.
  • Recommend potential recipients to the Board for final approval.**
  • When requested by the Board, review and make recommendations on proposals for new awards applicable to the subcommittee's award category and provide feedback on the utility of the criteria and measurement tools for existing awards within the subcommittee's purview.
  • Submit a report to the Board on an annual basis
 

This subcommittee will review nominations received for the following awards:

State Legislative Leadership Award & State Legislative Commitment Award
The State Legislative Leadership Award was established in 1993to recognize the work of an individual APTA member on behalf of a component's state legislative efforts in a given year. Recipients not selected for the State Legislative Leadership Award can be recommended to receive the State Legislative Commitment Award. 

Federal Government Affairs Leadership Award
The Federal Government Affairs Leadership Award was established in 2003 to recognize outstanding achievements by APTA members in advancing the association's federal government affairs objectives and activities. The award is presented annually to an APTA member who has made significant contributions to APTA's federal government affairs efforts, and has shown exemplary leadership in furthering the association's objectives.

Public Service Award
The Public Service Award, was established in 1991 to annually recognize individuals who have demonstrated distinctive support for the physical therapy profession at a national level.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTEES

Preference will be given to individuals with the following experience:

  • Federal Affairs Liaison or Federal Key Contact
  • Current or Former Component Leader (President or Board Member)
  • Former Advocacy Award Recipient
  • PT-PAC Club Member
  • State Legislative Chair

 

MEETINGS

This subcommittee meets approximately 2 times per year virtually.

Note: All APTA appointed groups will conduct their work with the Association organizational values in mind and in the context of 1) APTA’s mission, vision and strategic plan, and 2) the potential for their work to have implications related to physical therapist assistants, women, diversity, and risk management.
