Geriatrics: AGPT Balance and Falls SIG Research Liaison

Description:

This is an appointed position, selected by the chair of the Balance and Falls Special Interest Group of APTA Geriatrics. The term is for 1 year, starting at one CSM and ending at the next CSM. There are no term limits so long as the person fulfilling the role of the Research Liaison is in good standing as demonstrated by the criteria below.

 Anticipated hours of work per month: varies (2-3 hours per month unless opting to participate on other projects)

 Requirements: To be considered for the Research  Liaison position, a person must

  1. Be a currently licensed PT or PTA
  2. Be a current member of APTA Geriatrics
  3. Have a passion for balance and falls management 

 Responsibilities:

  1. Main role is leading and/or assisting with various research projects as well as answering research questions and assisting with the list-serve.
  2. Facilitate clinical and basic science research in balance promotion and fall prevention and assist in establishing a network for communicating the results of research.
  3. Provide an avenue of communication and networking for clinicians, educators, and researchers working with or interested in balance promotion and fall prevention.
  4. Assist translating evidence into practice to ensure high value care with input from practitioners, for future research in balance promotion and fall prevention. 
  5. Assist, organize, and present programming and focused sessions at the APTA's annual conferences and other national/international conferences, and to disseminate information to rehabilitation health care providers to promote optimal health, wellness, function, and quality of life for individuals with balance impairments and fall risks.
  6. Attend quarterly executive committee meetings as able
  7. Answer all emails from the Balance and Falls SIG leadership within 1 week of receipt to ensure optimal communication
