APTA National -- Seeking Nominations for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s National Advisory Council, 2025

Signup Deadline: 04-22-2024
Starts: 06-01-2024
Ends: 12-31-2027

Description:

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality produces evidence to make health care safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable, and works within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and with other partners to make sure that the evidence is understood and used. In addition, AHRQ conducts and supports research concerning priority populations, which include: Inner city; rural; low income; minority; women; children; elderly; and those with special health care needs, including those who have disabilities, need chronic care, or need end-of-life health care.

AHRQ is seeking nominations to the National Advisory Council. The NAC advises AHRQ’s Director and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on activities proposed or undertaken to carry out AHRQ's statutory mission. The Agency seeks diverse representation geographically and across priority and underrepresented populations. Nominations of persons with expertise in health care for priority populations are encouraged.

Seven new members will be appointed to replace seven current members whose terms will expire in November 2023. New individuals selected by the Secretary to serve on the Council will begin their terms in the spring of 2024. Members generally serve 3-year terms, and appointments are staggered to permit an orderly rotation of membership.

Qualifications: To fill these positions, AHRQ is seeking individuals who: (1) are distinguished in the conduct of research, demonstration projects, and evaluations with respect to health care; (2) are distinguished in the fields of health care quality research or health care improvement; (3) are distinguished in the practice of medicine; (4) are distinguished in other health professions; (5) represent the private health care sector (including health plans, providers, and purchasers) or are distinguished as administrators of health care delivery systems; (6) are distinguished in the fields of health care economics, information systems, law, ethics, business, or public policy; and (7) represent the interests of patients and consumers of health care. Individuals are particularly sought with experience and success in these activities.

The Council meets in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, generally in Rockville, Maryland, approximately three times a year to provide broad guidance to the Secretary and AHRQ’s Director on the direction of and programs undertaken by AHRQ.

Years of experience: There are no set years of experience required to serve on the Council, but all APTA nominees must meet the qualifications above and have advanced knowledge and expertise within their field of study.

Next Steps: If you are interested in being nominated by APTA to serve on the Council  please click the “Sign-up” button at the top of this page and send an email to Rachel Miller, rachelmiller@apta.org with your CV and contact information by Sunday, May 5th.

While we appreciate candidates’ willingness to serve, we can neither guarantee that you will be nominated for the position, nor that you will be selected by the commission if nominated. APTA will review CVs and determine the candidate with the best fit in comparison to the task force’s criteria. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rachel Miller, rachelmiller@apta.org.
