Description:

Background:

APTA has connected with Alexandria City Public Schools  TC Williams Health Science Academy , specifically their Sports Medicine Academic Pathway. July 6-16, 2021 they are hosting an annual Summer Bridge Program. Student will participate in three sessions each day and Wednesday, July 7, 2021 is the Sports Medicine date. On this day they are offering career panels that will include an ACPS representative, George Washington University faculty, employer from a related profession, and students. There will be three panel sessions on this day, one at 10:00a, 11:00a, and 12:00p EST. Each session will be approximately 45 minutes long. The audience will be rising 9th and 10th graders.

The goal is to helps participants:

  • Understand more about health sciences professions (outside of nurses and doctors).
  • Learn about different educational pathways that can lead to health professions careers.

Volunteer Opportunity:

We are looking for three licensed PT or PTA volunteers to sit on a virtual panel and speak from an employer/employee perspective about the day to day life of a PT or PTA, how students can prepare now to be successful students and professionals, other health career options outside of nursing and MD, etc. Feel free to volunteer for one hour slot or multiple slots if you are available. This is a virtual opportunity so even if you are not local to Alexandria you can still volunteer.
