Description:

Student Assembly Project Committees are established by the Student Assembly Board of Directors (SABoD) for the purpose of supporting the Student Assembly Strategic Plan. Interested applicants should review the information below and indicate preference of committee assignment in the application form.


Requirements for Chair:
     - Must be a SPT or SPTA member of APTA
     - Must be able to commit 3-7 hours per week on committee-related activities during busiest times


Responsibilities: 
     - Regularly collaborate with an assigned member of the SABoD and APTA staff
     - Provide annual report to the Student Assembly Board prior to NSC
     - Collaborate with the Director of Communications to create and coordinate social media posts for Student Assembly social media pages.
     - Lead a team of 5 - 7 committee members in support of Student Assembly priorities


Project Committee Descriptions:

Community Service

The work of this committee should align with the Student Assembly’s goal to promote the advancement of the physical therapy profession to better serve the needs of society by promoting APTA’s consumer-centricity and developing cultural competency within the Student Assembly. This committee should foster student opportunities in community service, public health awareness, and engagement with minority and underserved populations by working with APTA staff to further the profession's commitment to improving health and wellness within the community.


Global Outreach

The work of this committee should align with the Student Assembly’s goal to promote the advancement of the physical therapy profession to better serve the needs of society through promotion of APTA’s consumer-centricity and development of cultural competency within the Student Assembly. This committee should help to promote awareness of global affairs concerning physical therapy and various opportunities available for students abroad. The committee should establish connections with the World Confederation of Physical Therapy and the Global Health Special Interest Group under the APTA Health Policy and Administration Section. This committee should help to promote international service learning opportunities for students and connect with international physical therapy programs and associations to increase global networking.

 

Interprofessional Collaboration

The work of this committee should align with the Student Assembly’s goal to improve communication across the spectrum of all students and professionals. This committee should help to promote collaboration, education, and networking between students and professionals across various healthcare disciplines and specialties. While anticipating healthcare transformations, this committee could advance PT and PTA student understanding of and experience with providing patient-centered care as part of an interprofessional team. The Chair of this PC will also serve as a contact and participant in the Interprofessional Leaders of Student Organizations in Healthcare (ILSOH) group.

 

National Student Conclave (NSC)

The work of this committee should align with the Student Assembly’s goal to increase student involvement within APTA through increased involvement at National Student Conclave. This committee will collaborate with APTA staff to develop a student-centered conference that enables attendees to experience the opportunities, support, and community that exists within the physical therapy profession, and partner with other Project Committees to compile the ultimate student experience. PC members are also asked to review and score content submissions, and be available to assist with developing and implementing various events and opportunities for students to participate in at National Student Conclave.

 

Professional Advocacy

The work of this committee should align with the Student Assembly’s goal to promote advancement of the physical therapy profession to better serve the needs of society by facilitating student involvement with advocacy efforts. This committee should work with APTA staff to promote current advocacy strategies that directly impact the relationship between therapist and client/patient. The committee should promote efforts from APTA such as National Advocacy Dinners, to educate students on public policy issues impacting the physical therapy profession, and, when necessary, demonstrate this as a committee through legislative action.
