Description:

Charge of the Special Committee

That a special committee of the House of Delegates (House) be created within 60 days of the close of the 2019 House. The committee shall review the Bylaws of the American Physical Therapy Association, consider foundational and investigative work completed by the APTA Board of Directors’ Bylaws Review Task Force, and prepare amendments for consideration by the House no later than 2021.

The special committee shall comprise a current officer of the House of Delegates, and a minimum of 6 additional individuals. Preference shall be given to individuals who are current active delegates, have extensive experience as delegates, or have served in the past as an officer of the House of Delegates.


Responsibilities

Terms of Appointees

Members of this committee shall serve for up to 2 years, beginning August 2019, and ending no later than the 2021 APTA House of Delegates.

Meetings

The Special Committee to Develop APTA Bylaw Amendments is expected to meet virtually via webinars and conference calls to meet the charge during the established timeframe.

Requirements

Qualifications for Appointees

  • Extensive experience with the work of the APTA House of Delegates
  • Thorough understanding of APTA governance structure and the interrelationship between APTA governing documents such as the articles of incorporation, bylaws, standing rules, and policies.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize a vast amount of information
  • Experience working and collaborating with others remotely
  • Ability to collaborate with delegates, component leaders and other stakeholders to elicit input
